If the running trademark battle between Tesla chair Robyn Denholm's family office and former Macquarie Capital chief Tim Bishop's climate tech VC firm were a saga, volume one would be over.
In a 12 June decision by IP Australia first reported by Lawyerly, Denholm's Wollemi Capital Group lost its opposition to a trademark application by Bishop's Wollemi Capital linked to the words "Wollemi" and the phrase "Wollemi Capital."
But the loss isn't necessarily a setback for a separate application by Denholm's group that's still under dispute.
That dispute, lodged in March 2023 and reported on previously by Capital Brief, is driven by opposition from Bishop's firm to an application by Denholm's family office for use of the words Wollemi, Capital and Group, as well as a proposed logo.
