At Canva’s Surry Hills HQ on Tuesday night, Culture Amp founder and CEO Didier Elzinga was refreshingly candid about the promise and peril of artificial intelligence, speaking at the design giant’s inaugural AI Vision event.
“Behind closed doors everyone is talking about ‘what does this do to our headcount plans',” he said in response to a “spicy” question from Canva co-founder Cameron Adams about AI’s potential to wipe out white-collar jobs.

“A lot of what we do as knowledge work today… is essentially white-collar assembly line work,” Elzinga said.
That foreboding exchange was an outlier in an otherwise optimistic discussion about AI’s potential. Though Culture Amp’s employee experience platform — used by the likes of Disney and McDonald’s — was last valued at $2.4 billion, Elzinga said it’s only now he feels truly empowered to fulfil his vision for the startup.
