After a four-year turnaround of NAB under former chief executive Ross McEwan, Andrew Irvine sees AI as his opportunity to push the bank past its much larger rivals and to the front of the pack.
On Monday, the chief executive signalled NAB had laid the foundations for what he believes will be a key advantage over its bigger competitors.
“We’re the only bank in Australia with a multi-cloud infrastructure environment and over 90% of our compute is now in the cloud. We have significantly improved resilience, and we have all our data in one modern platform and that’s really important,” Irvine told Capital Brief.
“It’s very hard to take advantage of AI when you don’t have all those capabilities rooted in one cloud environment.”
