National Australia Bank and the Commonwealth Bank have both been aggressively bolstering their retail arms, as the banking talent war heats up.
NAB’s head of retail, Ana Marinkovic, told brokers at a lunch late last year that she had hired 270 lenders into personal banking in the last financial year, Capital Brief has confirmed.
One person present at that lunch told Capital Brief that she indicated about 180 of those hires — roughly two thirds — came from CBA, but NAB later told this publication that figure was drawn from all the rival major banks.
A spokesperson for CBA told Capital Brief its own analysis shows just 27 of its lenders defected in 2025 to NAB and that it had added more than 100 lenders over the same period.
