Employment Hero has dismissed four employees for inappropriate behaviour at its ‘Global Gatherings’, where over 1,000 remote staff meet to align strategy and bond.

Employment Hero, an HR software platform with staff across 15 countries, calls its annual Global Gathering (GG) the “pinnacle” of its calendar — a five-day event to align strategy and strengthen bonds among its fully remote workforce of over 1,000.

However, the company has dismissed four employees for inappropriate behaviour during these events — three following investigations after this year’s gathering and one following last year’s event.

The Global Gathering, first held in Thailand in 2022, has become an annual tradition, with subsequent events in Vietnam in 2023 and Bali in 2024. The next gathering is planned for Dubai, though one employee expressed concern to Capital Brief about how the choice of location might impact LGBTQ staff.

Reviews on Glassdoor liken the GG to “adult schoolies", and suggest employees face reprisals for not taking part. Both current and former employees echoed this sentiment, and also described the event as “very male-dominated".
