Harris could challenge Trump on issues like abortion, says ex-ambassador Sinodinos
Arthur Sinodinos, who served as Australia's ambassador to the US from 2020 to 2023, says Kamala Harris is best placed to hit Trump on his biggest vulnerability.
Going into the first presidential debate, Donald Trump’s biggest vulnerability was the growing restrictions and worsening medical care for women in the wake of Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Yet Joe Biden failed to land a blow.
Arthur Sinodinos, who served as Australia’s ambassador to the United States between February 2020 and March 2023, says Kamala Harris is best placed to take on Trump regarding abortion, following Biden pulling out of the race and anointing her as the presumptive Democratic nominee.
In a voluntary voting system like the US, Sinodinos says Harris may be able to energise much of the Democratic voting base on abortion in a way that Biden was not able to.
Sinodinos, who met Harris a number of times when he was in the Washington post, tells Capital Brief that Trump “has the momentum and he’ll be tough to beat”.
