How Matched’s co-founders built their startup across two cities

One of Matched’s co-founders lives in Melbourne, the other in Sydney. They’ve made it work through ‘co-founder therapy’, break-up planning and a deep friendship.

Former Linktree colleagues Jessica Box and Susan Hion-Jarvis went from teammates to co-founders when they started advisory platform Matched in 2023.

The startup connects individuals with paid trainers and advisors who share their interests, helping them achieve goals such as securing a new job, changing careers or mastering a specific skill.

In November, Box and Hion-Jarvis raised approximately $500,000 in an angel round, attracting investors including Modibodi founder Kristy Chong, Frank Body co-founder Bree Johnson, angel syndicate FB10X and LaunchVic’s Alice Anderson Fund, which supports women-led startups.

Box spoke to Capital Brief about managing a long-distance co-founder relationship, writing out a break-up plan, and when the idea for Matched first ‘screamed’ at her.
