Labor backs super fund stapling amid Employment Hero-Hostplus feud
The Albanese government has renewed its call on companies not to undermine the 'stapling' of employees to a single super fund when onboarding new staff.
Financial Services Minister Stephen Jones has vowed to crack down on companies seeking to circumvent laws designed to 'staple' workers to a single superannuation fund during employee onboarding programs.
It comes amid a high-profile feud between the chief executive of HR software unicorn Employment Hero and Hostplus sparked by a submission from the industry super fund to Treasury. The submission proposed legislation to stop workforce management platforms from advertising or favouring superannuation products to users.
Jones would not comment on the situation between Employment Hero and Hostplus, but said the government had made clear that “employee onboarding platforms should not undermine stapling”.
“We are reviewing feedback from consultation on whether more needs to be done to ensure the intent of stapling is achieved,” Jones said in a statement to Capital Brief.
