Employment Hero's Thompson hits back in bitter feud with Hostplus

“If you're going to invest in startups, you've got to accept that they're going to do disruptive things" Employment Hero founder Ben Thompson said of Hostplus, one of the country's biggest VC LPs.

Employment Hero founder and chief executive Ben Thompson has questioned whether super fund titan Hostplus should be investing in startup businesses, in the latest escalation of the feud between the HR software unicorn and one of the country's biggest venture capital backers.

Thompson was responding to a tense statement from Hostplus which has accused the founder of the $2 billion startup of making "completely false" statements about its actions.

“If you're going to invest in startups, you've got to accept that they're going to do disruptive things" Thompson said of Hostplus, which has been one of the most enthusiastic super funds backing the venture capital industry and by extension, startups, in recent years.

“Sometimes those things you might not agree with. What do you do if you don't agree with them? And you're a super fund? Do you continue investing in startups? I don't know. That's what they gotta figure out.”
