In a significant changing of the guard at one of Australia's most successful tech companies, SafetyCulture has appointed Kelly Vohs as its new CEO.

Luke Anear, founder of workplace safety platform and unicorn SafetyCulture, will step down as chief executive after more than a decade leading the company, with Kelly Vohs appointed CEO effective 1 January 2025.

Anear told Capital Brief he made the decision just six weeks ago. “I came home from another trip away, and chatting to my family, it was kind of a question as to, ‘Is this what our life is still going to be for the next 10 years?’” he said. “I don’t want to be away all the time. I’ve done enough of that.”

Earlier this year, Anear described SafetyCulture to Capital Brief as his "life's work", adding, “At some point, I’ll transition into an executive chair role, and someone much smarter than me can continue to build the business way beyond anything that I can imagine”. He has now made that move.

Anear will transition to the role of executive chairman, focusing on long-term strategy and vision for the company he founded in Townsville. SafetyCulture was valued at $2.5 billion in its latest funding round in September.
