Meet the ‘map mafia’ taking on the $6 billion global mapping sector
Detail Earth, launched by seasoned entrepreneurs in geospatial tech, plans to launch new generation aerial mapping imagery to the Asia-Pacific region.
Founders are often asked: If you did this all over again, what would you do differently? Few get to live out the answer to that question. The team behind Perth startup Detail Earth is among them.
The company, which aims to disrupt the $6 billion global mapping market with ultra-high resolution imagery and an AI-enhanced distribution model, has secured $1.5 million in its seed round, led by Perth-based venture capital FundWA with additional contributions from private investors in Australia and Southeast Asia.
And many of its team have already walked this road, with founders of the venture including Amir Farhand, a serial entrepreneur in geospatial technology who is also the CEO and founder of digital atlas Soar, Thomas Tadrowski, previously executive director at ASX-listed location-based technology company Aerometrex, and Lee White, an investor and experienced mining executive. Geo-physicist Brett Johnson, who recently passed away, would have also been a co-founder.
Stuart Nixon, founder and former CEO of Nearmap, the Perth-founded aerial tech company that was sold for $1.06 billion in 2022, will be joining in an advisory capacity.
