Access to solar panels shouldn’t be a question of wealth — at least that's the view of National Renewable Network (NRN) founder Alan Hunter.

“We’ve got to remove the inequalities in the renewable energy sector,” he told Capital Brief. “We believe that every Australian should have equal rights to having a solar and battery on their property.”

NRN has just closed a pre-series A bridge funding round of $1 million led by Investible’s Climate Tech Fund, following its $13.5 million raise in December. The Sydney-based startup fits households with rooftop solar and home battery systems at no upfront cost to consumers.

Instead, it makes money by charging energy retailers a licence fee to incorporate energy plans into their platform. This approach aims to help consumers access the benefits of solar power while incentivising energy companies to transition to green energy.
