RBA rate cut all but certain as Trump's tariff deadline looms
The Reserve Bank is overwhelmingly expected to slash rates on Tuesday as global volatility continues to take hold.
Officials from the Reserve Bank of Australia have said very little since the last time the board met to set interest rates back in May, with global economic issues dominating the discourse. But from this week onwards, that is expected to change.
Here’s what you need to know about the key economic data releases this week.
Rates decision
The decision: Reserve Bank July interest rate announcement and governor Michele Bullock press conference
When: Tuesday 8 July 2025
What to expect: Economists, including those at Westpac, Commonwealth Bank, ANZ and UBS, have been quickly shifting their rate cut predictions over the past couple of weeks to July, with many previously thinking August would be the next easing. Money markets are priced in for a cut, too, with consensus indicating that the rate will be cut 25 basis points to 3.6%.
