RBA's Michele Bullock set to face the music at Senate Estimates
The central bank will be centre stage as a host of regulators appear at Senate Estimates at a time when rising property prices are again in focus.
It will be a short but busy week for much of the country, with Senate Estimates set to put the spotlight back to the Reserve Bank of Australia, at a time when house prices are again rising strongly despite fading hopes for sustained rate cuts.
Here’s what you need to know about the key economic data releases this week.
Reserve Bank at Estimates
The event: Senate Estimates — Economic Committee
Highlights: On Thursday, Treasury secretary Jenny Wilkinson will appear until 11am when the department’s Revenue Group, fiscal group and small business, corporate and law group will take over. In the afternoon, hearings are dominated by ASIC, ACCC, APRA and the ABS followed by an evening of the ATO, Tax Practitioners Board, ACNC, Australian Office of Financial Management, Treasury’s Housing Group and Housing Australia.
On Friday, the highlight will be Reserve Bank governor Michele Bullock and assistant governor financial markets Christopher Kent appearing followed by the Productivity Commission.
