Humi staff fear culture shock as Employment Hero takes control
Just weeks after taking control, Employment Hero has wound back perks and changed practices, unsettling staff at the Toronto tech darling.
Australian human resources software unicorn Employment Hero has moved to swiftly dismantle generous perks and workplace practices at its newly acquired Canadian business Humi, triggering unease among staff at the Toronto-based firm.
Just weeks after Employment Hero completed the $100 million acquisition of the business, Humi employees contacted Capital Brief to express concerns about the rapid elimination of established benefits at the firm including its 4.5 day work week policy. The employees spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to the media.
The Humi acquisition, announced on January 8, marked Employment Hero's third major purchase and its entry into the North American market. But the integration has sparked anxiety among Humi staff, particularly regarding the Australian company's "perk-free" workplace philosophy and its high performance management style.
Humi employees were informed of impending policy changes through a brief Slack message, with detailed updates to the employee handbook scheduled for March 1. The announcement has fuelled uncertainty among staff already wary of operating under new ownership. An Employment Hero spokesperson declined to comment.
