The news: The ASX has appointed Lucinda McCann as its new chief compliance officer, replacing Daniel Moran who is resigning.

The context: McCann has been a partner at law firm Norton Rose Fulbright since February 2025.

She was previously at the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority for more than 5 years, including as chief general counsel between April 2022 and January 2025 when she oversaw the legal and enforcement group.

Moran announced he would be retiring from the chief compliance officer role at the end of July.

At the start of November, the ASX announced that former Reserve Bank governor Philip Lowe had been appointed chair of a new advisory group on corporate governance, which is currently recruiting members.

The ASX is currently reforming its approach to corporate governance for the market and is also consulting on changes to its listing rules.

The ASX’s own governance is under review by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and has been recently flagged for ongoing governance shortcomings by the RBA.

What they said: “I am delighted that Lucinda is joining ASX at a time when we have been deepening our focus and leadership on policy matters in support of the vibrant public listed market which is so important to Australia’s economy,” ASX managing director and CEO Helen Lofthouse said.

Lofthouse also said McCann would bolster the bourse operator’s “strong track record of our ASX Compliance team who are tasked with the specialist role of monitoring and enforcing compliance by listed entities and issuers of investment products with ASX’s rules”.

“I am confident she will further strengthen our efforts to uphold high standards of market conduct.”
