The news: Canva has launched its Creative Operating System, which it says represents "the biggest evolution" of its product to date.

The context: Australia's most valuable tech unicorn unveiled seven new products and a comprehensive AI integration layer designed to consolidate design, collaboration, publishing and performance analytics into a single platform at its biggest keynote event in Sydney last night. 3,000 Australia and New Zealand 'Canvanauts' attended.

The new products arrive as Canva seeks to defend its dominant market position against established rivals Adobe and Microsoft, as well as emerging AI-powered design tools.

The rapid integration of artificial intelligence into creative software has intensified competition, with Adobe's Firefly and Microsoft's Designer both challenging Canva's user-friendly approach.

Currently valued at USD42 billion ($64 billion) with USD 3.5 billion in annualised revenue, Canva serves 260 million monthly active users globally and counts 95% of Fortune 500 companies as enterprise clients.

The new system addresses growing demand for integrated creative tools as businesses shift towards unified platforms rather than fragmented software solutions.

The details: The Creative Operating System introduces:

  • AI Where You Work: AI integration across all design processes with a new design assistant
  • Video 2.0: Rebuilt video editing capabilities for professional content creation
  • Canva Grow: Marketing engine for ad creation, distribution and performance tracking
  • All-New Affinity: Professional design application now offered free permanently
  • Forms: Interactive form builder integrated within designs
  • Email Design: Native email creation with export to third-party platforms
  • Canva Code in Sheets: Real-time data visualisation through interactive widgets

The system is built on what the company describes as a "world-first Design Model" that integrates human creativity with AI amplification.

What they said: "As knowledge becomes more and more accessible, we believe we’re moving from the Information Era to the Imagination Era, a time when creativity has never been more critical," said Canva CEO Melanie Perkins.

"We’ve been thinking about how we can empower our community to succeed in this era, which is why we’re incredibly excited to unveil our biggest launch yet with the all-in-one Creative Operating System. From major upgrades to our Visual Suite with Video, Email, and Forms, to a powerful new AI layer and tools to grow your brand and business, we can’t wait to see how people use all of these new products to bring their ideas to life."
