Cooking app ReciMe raises $1.5m in seed round led by Even Capital
The news: Cooking app ReciMe, designed to help home cooks organise, share and shop their recipes, has raised a $1.5 million seed round led by New Zealand VC Even Capital.
The numbers: Founded in Australia in 2022 before relocating to New York, ReciMe now has 800,000 users globally and 100,000 unique recipes.
The context: The seed round was backed by angel investors including former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, Ancestry.com CEO Deb Liu, Letterboxd founder Karl von Randow and Australian e-commerce entrepreneur and investor Paul Greenberg.
ReciMe’s app features a smart importing tool, which enables users to bring together recipes from different sources, and aggregate them into one platform.
What they said: ReciMe co-founder and CEO Christine Nguyen said: “When we first released ReciMe, we built too many things, and none of them worked well".
“As soon as we realised that our smart importer was our most loved feature, we scrapped everything and re-built our entire app just to drive that one core action,” she said.
Even Capital co-founder and managing general partner Sarah Park said: “ReciMe holds enormous potential to innovate the experience for home cooks, and their impressive leadership team plus success to date made it a simple decision for us to lead their investment round as they expand globally".
