The news: Innovation Bay’s venture capital network Aurora has announced the formation of its advisory board including leaders from Blackbird, Airtree, and Square Peg.

The numbers: The Aurora community comprises 118 VCs from 95 funds and manages billions in assets.

The eight leaders appointed to the board are:

  • Rick Baker, co-founder, Blackbird
  • Karen Chan, portfolio manager, Perennial Private Investments
  • Craig Blair, partner and co-founder, Airtree
  • Milly Goucher, head of ventures, Helia
  • Nick Gainsley, partner, OneVentures
  • Georgia Barkell, partner, Sprint Ventures
  • Derek Handley, partner, Aera VC
  • Dan Krasnostein, partner, Square Peg

The context: Innovation Bay is Australia's longest running networking community for VC and startups, with Aurora providing a space for leaders in VC to engage.

The advisors will aim to provide strategic insights, offer feedback on community initiatives, and shape the future trajectory of Innovation Bay. They will focus on three areas — journey (adding value for members and shaping the community’s essence), content and membership.

What they said: Chan said: “I joined the Aurora Advisory Committee to contribute to deepening connections and fostering ongoing learning within our ever-evolving venture ecosystem”.

Similarly, Krasnostein said collaboration across the industry was a cornerstone of success.

“The Aurora community plays a crucial role in fostering pivotal relationships among investors, which in turn drives collaboration. I joined the committee to play whatever small part I could in nurturing this incredible community,” he said.
