Kaggle co-founders close $59m raise for new startup Sumble
The news: The founders of data science platform Kaggle have closed a USD38.5 million ($59 million) raise for their new sales intelligence company Sumble.
The context: The round was led by Canaan Partners and Coatue, with participation from Australian VC Square Peg Capital, as well as Zetta Venture Partners, Bloomberg Beta and AIX Ventures.
Created by Melbournian Anthony Goldbloom and Ben Hamner, Sumble ingests web data to develop actionable data for go-to-market strategy teams.
Goldbloom and Hamner's previous outfit Kaggle was acquired by Google in 2017.
What they said: "I got to know Anthony back in 2012 and have admired him as a founder and even more as a high integrity person since then and at a personal level couldn’t be more excited to be getting involved," said Square Peg co-founder Paul Bassat in a LinkedIn post.
"There are a range of connections between the Square Peg team and Sumble including Anthony’s wife Merav Bloch being an early member of the Square Peg team.
"Merav was involved so early in our journey that we didn’t even have a name at the time and Merav came up with our name 'Square Peg', inspired by the famous Apple Think Different campaign."
