Quantum sensor startup Deteqt closes $5m seed round led by Main Sequence
The news: Quantum magnetic sensors startup Deteqt has closed a $5 million seed round led by Main Sequence to further develop its technology into a “field-ready product”, scale up manufacturing and hire more staff.
The context: The seed round attracted participation from ATP Fund, BOKA Capital, Beaten Zone Venture Partners, Uniseed and the University of Sydney.
Deteqt completed a $750,000 pre-seed raise in March 2025 from Main Sequence and ATP.
The University of Sydney spinout’s chip-scale platform integrates nitrogen-vacancy diamond quantum sensors on custom silicon semiconductors to detect magnetic fields that can be used for navigation when HPS is not available or is being actively denied in a combat zone.
What they said: "Magnetic fields permeate everything around us — every object, every geological formation, every living body,” Deteqt CEO and co-founder Jim Rabeau said.
“When we have been able to access these signals at all, the results have been profound — MRI, mineral exploration, brain imaging. But these are isolated breakthroughs, built on systems too large and expensive to deploy beyond a handful of controlled environments. Our chip-scale integration changes that entirely.”
Main Sequence investment manager Alejandra Romero said: “Deteqt is tackling one of the hardest problems in quantum technology: building sensors that are simultaneously sensitive enough to be useful and small enough to deploy at scale.”
“What sets Deteqt apart is the combination of a chip-scale manufacturing path and the commercial traction they’ve built in less than eighteen months. The partner pipeline and the speed of execution are exceptional for a company at this stage,” she said.
