Startup Kord Australia secures $11m contract with US army
The news: Australian defence technology company Kord Group has secured a contract with the US Army to provide its RACU System Technology, a centralised control system for weapon-mounted and body-worn electronic devices.
The numbers: The contract is valued at $US7 million ($11 million) and was awarded by Booz Allen Hamilton as part of the Engineering, Development, Integration, and Technology-based solutions (EDITS) Program.
The context: The RACU System Technology was developed and tested through collaboration between the Australian Army and US Marine Corps.
The contract aligns with defence objectives under the AUKUS agreement and represents a significant export opportunity for Australian defence innovation. The system will be evaluated by the US Army as the common remote for the Next Generation Squad Weapon.
What they said: "Think of it as a simple, common remote for the soldier, which gives them quick, easy and intuitive control," said Dr Peter Moran, group managing director at Kord.
"It's a force multiplier, simple to learn, and rugged. It allows soldiers to keep head up, eyes on target and hands on weapon.
"This is more than just about securing a technology contract. Not only is this an Australian industry export achievement, it's also a wonderful example of the collaboration between Australia and the US across militaries, innovation and industry for the benefit of both countries."
