Tech Council backs new alliance to integrate consumer energy into grid
The news: The Tech Council of Australia (TCA) has launched the Consumer Energy Tech Alliance (CETA), a new initiative focused on supporting Australia's energy transition through technology innovation and consumer empowerment.
Nine founding members have joined the alliance, including Brighte, Reposit Power, and Evie Networks.
The context: The initiative comes as Australia's energy market undergoes significant transformation, with increasing adoption of solar, battery storage, and smart technologies turning consumers into energy producers.
The alliance aims to integrate consumer energy resources into the national grid while maintaining system stability and affordability.
What they said: TCA chief executive Damian Kassabgi said CETA is based on three key pillars: "placing consumers at the heart of the energy transition; lowering power prices and increasing system reliability; and ensuring a fair and competitive environment for Australia's energy technology innovators."
TCA board director Scott Farquhar said: "Innovative tech is the spark that will ensure Australia builds a flexible and reliable decentralised energy system – one that accelerates the energy transition and showcases amazing homegrown talent."
Brighte chief executive Katherine McConnell said: "We're committed to working with government and consumers to make sure technology plays a critical role in building a more efficient, inclusive energy system for all Australians."
