Workplace messaging startup 8seats raises $2m seed round
The news: Australian messaging startup 8seats has raised $2 million in seed funding from a consortium of investors including Sydney venture capital firm Black Nova, former Woolworths chief executive Brad Banducci, and tech entrepreneurs Mike Priddis and Greg Miller.
The context: The workplace communication startup said the new funding will enable it to scale its platform and accelerate its go-to-market strategy, in preparation for a public launch in 2025. Following a closed beta release, 8seats said it is preparing for international expansion into the US, UK and broader Europe next year.
Additional angel investors included TBWA president Paul Bradbury, Prezzee president Tony Karp and Innovation Bay co-founder Ian Gardiner.
The platform, which is built to connect office-based and desk-less employees, aims to help employers avoid the data and security risks of using personal chat apps for work.
8seats founder and CEO Iain McDonald previously founded digital agency Amnesia, later acquired by Razorfish and Microsoft.
What they said: "8seats is on a mission to disrupt the norm," said McDonald.
"In a world dominated by legacy platforms, we’re here to give businesses a smarter, simpler way to connect and collaborate across every employee, from the shop floor to the boardroom."
