Zip to keep trademark following settlement with Firstmac
The news: Zip has reached a settlement with mortgage provider Firstmac to acquire the registered trademark that was disputed earlier this month.
The context: This comes after the High Court required Zip to stop using the “Zip” trademark in Australia for its products and services within 28 days.
However, the two parties reached a settlement allowing Zip to continue using the “Zip” name in Australia with respect to its products and services. The branding does not impact its US and New Zealand divisions.
Zip said the settlement payout will not materially affect the group’s FY26 financial guidance, adding that no further liability for damages or costs will occur.
