'Incredibly confusing': Migration tech startup Matilda closes pre-seed round
Sydney-based Matilda Migration has raised $1 million from Afterwork and Wollemi Capital to develop a platform to simplify the visa application process in Australia.
The visa application process is often a nightmare, something that startups relying on offshore talent or entrepreneurs trying to operate across borders are all too aware of. So perhaps its not surprising that a growing crop of startups are themselves trying to fix it.
Sydney-based Matilda Migration is among them. The company recently raised $1 million in pre-seed funding in a round led by AfterWork Ventures and with participation from Robyn Denholm's Wollemi Capital, Everywhere VC, Co-Ventures and Startmate.
The company, which is founded by Niamh Mooney and Damian Png, is developing a platform to combine AI with human interaction to streamline the migration process in Australia.
"Immigration is one of those classic, heavily regulated markets which has seen very little innovation over the decades," said Png. "We saw a significant opportunity to disrupt this stagnant industry by introducing modern technological tools and premium service standards."
