'Machines for makers': The Australian founders creating a new high-end computer
Dom Pym and Grant Bissett have a left-field plan to revolutionise workplace productivity by designing a new high-end computer that strips away digital distractions.
Unsatisfied with shaking up payments and banking, two of Australia’s most experienced fintech founders are turning their attention to "enterprise" computers.
Dom Pym, co-founder of Up Bank, and Grant Bissett, co-founder of Pin Payments, have launched a new company, Caligra, which is “making computers for makers”. It has already closed an angel round and recently completed its first priced equity round, raising £1 million (A$1.9 million) from Blackbird. Pym’s family office, Euphemia, was also the first “cornerstone” investor.
Pym and Bissett's first startup together, Pin Payments, sold to Checkout.com, a London-based global payments provider, in 2020. Pym went on to found Up Bank, which was later sold to Bendigo Bank, before establishing Euphemia.
Blackbird partner Niki Scevak described Caligra as "ambitious" and "a reimagination of the computer workstation, designed principally for high productivity in software developers".
