VR startup Phoria eyes Series A after a decade of bootstrapping
The Melbourne startup is in talks with VCs as its first Vision Pro release debuts on the App Store.
For some, the arrival of Apple’s flagship virtual reality headset in Australia earlier this month felt like a long wait. But few have been in line longer than Aussie founder Trent Clews-de Castella, who co-founded his spatial computing startup Phoria 10 years ago in the hope of a watershed moment like this.
The little-known Melbourne outfit, which specialises in virtual, augmented and mixed reality experiences, worked with Netflix, Google, WWF and David Attenborough to build its debut app, REWILD, for the Apple Vision Pro.
And having bootstrapped for a decade, Phoria’s co-founder and CEO is now gearing up for a Series A.
Clews-de Castella spoke to Capital Brief about VR’s role in the future of working, Meta vs Apple, and the startup’s long-term vision.
