'We've been saying this for two years': Jewish VCs grieve Bondi massacre as tech luminaries pledge support

Jewish members of the Australian tech ecosystem say their warnings over rising antisemitism went unheeded.

In the hours after a mass shooting killed 15 people at a Hanukkah celebration on Sydney's Bondi Beach on Sunday, members of Australia's technology and venture capital community began reaching out to Jewish colleagues with messages of support.

But for many, such private condolences are no longer enough. They have called for a public response, and many have answered.

Paul Naphtali, partner at Rampersand, said he was grateful to have received messages of support from investors and founders across the industry, but believed the moment called for something more visible.

"What this requires now is not just private messages and condolences, but for public outrage and the demand for change," Naphtali told Capital Brief.
