The news: AI technology company Minikai has secured $2.5 million in seed funding led by Tidal Ventures, with participation from Antler. The company develops AI agents to reduce administrative burdens in the disability and aged care sectors.

The numbers: Australian care providers currently spend between 30% to 50% of their working hours on administration and compliance tasks. Minikai's platform currently serves providers who collectively support over 150,000 vulnerable Australians annually.

The context: Minikai's AI agents handle paperwork and compliance tasks within the complex regulatory framework of Australia's National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and aged care system.

The company was founded in 2024 by Keoki Alexander-Chang, former head of Deloitte's Forensic AI lab, and Ky Shera-Jones, who previously worked on government infrastructure at Concentrix-Tigerspike.

What they said: "Our goal at Minikai is to make AI useful so that every Australian can access better care and thrive," Alexander-Chang said.

"If we can help providers reduce the time they spend on admin, we are helping taxpayers, the government, providers, carers, and the people in need of care."
