Private capital software platform Carta lands in Australia

The news: US-based private capital software platform Carta has announced its expansion into Australia, establishing a Sydney office as part of Investment NSW's initiative to develop New South Wales as a global business hub.

The numbers: Carta currently manages nearly USD3 trillion ($4.65 trillion) in equity for more than two million stakeholders globally, servicing over 40,000 companies across 160 countries. The platform supports more than 7,000 funds and SPVs, representing over USD130 billion in assets under administration.

Its liquidity solutions have facilitated USD15 billion in secondary transaction returns to shareholders.

The context: The company has appointed Bhavik Vashi, managing director of Carta, to lead the Australian operations.

Australia ranks 11th on the Global Startup Ecosystem Index, presenting growth opportunities in private markets. Carta has previously worked with Australian firms including Employment Hero and Titanium Ventures.

The company's Sydney office, launching on 18 November 2024, will focus on sales and marketing, while expanding partnerships with local universities including UNSW Founders, INCUBATE from the University of Sydney, and Techstars Tech Central Sydney Accelerator.

What they said: "With its vibrant ecosystem, Australia is ripe for the next phase of growth in the private markets," Vashi said. "Our official expansion here aligns perfectly with Carta's vision to streamline how private markets operate."
