The news: Australian technology company Canva has appointed Kelly Steckelberg, former Zoom chief financial officer, as its new CFO. Steckelberg joins the company as it reaches a new valuation of $US32 billion ($48.8 billion) and reports significant user growth.

The numbers: In an announcement, Canva said it has reached $2.5 billion in annualised revenue and increased its monthly active users to 220 million, up from 200 million in the previous month. The company has maintained profitability for seven consecutive years and added 1,000 new employees in 2024. Its enterprise offering is now used by more than 95% of Fortune 500 companies.

The context: The CFO appointment comes as Canva continues its expansion into enterprise markets, with the company reporting a tripling of enterprise revenue growth in the past year. Notable enterprise clients include HP, Snowflake and Docusign.

The company has also launched new artificial intelligence products including Dream Lab, powered by Leonardo.Ai, and Magic Studio, which was recognised in TIME's Best Inventions list.

Former chief financial officer Damien Singh resigned from the design software startup earlier this year after the company launched an internal investigation amid concerns about alleged inappropriate behaviour.

What they said: "Kelly's impressive track record as a strong leader and strategic thinker, combined with her proven expertise in scaling enterprise companies, makes her the perfect addition to our leadership bench," said Cliff Obrecht, Canva co-founder and chief operating officer.

"I've been an admirer of the team, product and mission for a number of years now and I'm eager to have the opportunity to work alongside Melanie, Cliff, Cameron and the team to continue empowering every person and organisation to achieve their goals," Steckelberg said.
